Cassandra

at 13 years old, was struggling with school and had little supervision, which led to experimenting with drugs and becoming a chronic runaway. Her behavior had a lot to do with the fact that she was molested by her brother from age 7 – 11 years old, and her mom ignored that abuse. At the age of 16, Cassandra’s mom kicked her out of the house because she was unable to care for her and failed to enroll her in school. Four months later, Cassandra came into the system and CASA assigned her an advocate. Her CASA advocate Donna has supported her with making educational goals, receiving therapy, and ultimately gave Cassandra a second chance in life. Donna shepherded her through high school and community college, and is assisting Cassandra with her employment search.
